Press Releases: On the Occasion of Sweden's National Day

Press Statement
Rex W. Tillerson
Secretary of State
Washington, DC
June 6, 2017

Congratulations to the people of Sweden on the 208th anniversary of the adoption of the Swedish constitution.

Our longstanding friendship is based on our shared interests in a safe, secure, and prosperous world. Sweden and the United States are major investors in each other’s economies, supporting hundreds of thousands of jobs in both countries. We look forward to accelerating trade between our two countries and to further strengthening our economic relationship.

As a NATO Enhanced Opportunities Partner, Sweden works closely with the United States and our allies to advance global security. This close relationship was deepened last year when we signed a Statement of Intent to increase our cooperation and improve our defense capabilities in the face of regional provocation and the threat of terrorism.

We are proud to call Sweden a partner and friend. As we mark this important day, best wishes to the Swedish people.
